Session Description

KEDC Federal Programs and Title 1 cadre meetings will include time for participants to discuss ways to efficiently and effectively monitor compliance with federal policies and federal laws, coordinate services for schools identified as Title I, maintain records/expenditures for Title program schools, communicate with private and home schools regarding federal programs and record keeping. 

KEDC Federal Programs and Title 1 cadre meetings may include Panel Q and A sessions,open forum conversation time, presentations by KDE staff, presentations by experienced Federal Programs Coordinators, and sharing of research.

KEDC Federal Programs and Title 1 cadre meetings will allow the participants to collaboratively learn and spend time refining their work with the teachers and students they serve. Throughout the year participants will: analyze their district Federal program and title plans and procedures, consider ways to improve the implementation of Federal Programs in their schools, discuss ways to leverage community and school partners, present their own problems of practice and work together to create solutions,review and discuss research, apply technology as an efficiency tool, hear from state and national educational experts and most importantly learn from each other.

GOAL Year 3

Session Description

Get Online And Learn driven by Kentucky Power (AEP Foundation)  –  KEDC administers this project which is open to schools in counties served by Kentucky Power and enables participating schools to bring the world to their students through virtual education experiences. During Year 1 and 2, Eastern Kentucky students connected to students in Morocco to discuss cultural differences, mushers in Denali National Park to learn about sled dog adaptations and to a surgical team performing knee surgery. The work will continue for 2019 -20 with GOAL educators creating GET ONLINE and LEARN initiatives in their own districts. These district led GOAL groups will benefit from the knowledge and experience of their colleagues, the resources provided by KEDC and Kentucky Power and will potentially create over ten thousand online learning experience for KEDC students

Making Inquiry Visible 3 day workshop series (Round 2)

Session Description

Shifting Instruction to the New Kentucky Academic Standards for Social Studies 
Hosted by Kentucky Educational Development Cooperative (KEDC) and the Kentucky Council for the Social Studies (KCSS). 

Every child should be empowered to inquiry, to ask questions, and to wrestle their way to an argument. Join fellow Kentucky teachers to learn more about the Inquiry Design Model, the Kentucky Academic Standards for Social Studies (KASSS), and create your own classroom inquiry materials. The workshops will feature hands-on opportunities for teachers to develop inquiry materials for use in their classrooms and to join a community of educators who share an interest in invigorating their classrooms through inquiry teaching and learning. 

Distinctive Features Small, intimate sessions** by co- creator of the Inquiry Design Model. Three sequential workshops to allow teachers time to develop materials and collaborate with educators beyond the workshop time. Strategies for modifying inquiry-based instruction so that all learners have access to curriculum.

Carly is managing editor of the C3Teachers website.Their work extends beyond the C3 Framework into teacher education and preparing new teachers to tackle the challenges of teaching social studies in the 21st century.

Gifted and talented cadre -KEDC and CKEC -LEX

Session Description

KEDC/CKEC Gifted and Talented cadre meetings will include time for participants to discuss and learn about ways to efficiently and effectively manage their services for students. Topics will include current laws, state and federal policies and procedures, current research in gifted education, identifying, grouping and servicing gifted students, primary talent pool services, twice-exceptional student services, ways to work with school and community partners, using technology to enhance workflow, communication strategies, meeting the social and emotional needs of gifted students, working with classroom teachers in providing gifted services, and preparing students for post-school life and career.

KEDC/CKEC Gifted and Talented cadres may include: Panel Q and A sessions,open forum conversation time, presentations by KDE staff, presentations by experienced gifted educators and gifted education experts, lesson sharing, and book study.

KEDC/CKEC Gifted and talented cadre will allow the participants to spend time refining their role-specific work.   Throughout the year participants will: consider ways to improve gifted identification procedures and services, discuss ways to leverage community and school partners, present their own problems of practice and work together to create solutions, review and discuss  research, learn ways to apply technology as an efficiency tool, hear from state and national gifted experts, collaborate to create regional events for gifted students and most importantly learn from and with each other.
