An Opportunity to Explore the Professional Standards for Educational Leaders-PRINCIPALS

Session Description

An Opportunity to Explore the Professional Standards for Educational Leaders

The Office of Educator Effectiveness has been working for the past two years with diverse groups of educators on the selection of the PSEL standards for advanced educational leaders.  In December, the Kentucky Board of Education adopted these standards for use in principal evaluation.  All administrator preparation programs in Kentucky already are or soon will be using these standards with administrators.

Thus, OELE is providing some guidance on the PSEL standards.  A guidance document has been drafted to use as districts choose in the evaluation and growth process.  This training session will provide not only an overview of the standards and how they are different than past standards but will also provide a hands-on approach to learning more specific information about how the guidance document could be used for professional growth.

Participants will be provided a copy of the PSEL standards and will work with the guidance document.  Activities will be provided to allow participants to examine the standards along with the elements that contribute to the overall standard.  Discussion about the critical attributes of the standards with possible evidence examples will be shared.

Throughout the sessions, participants will be asked to share their thinking and suggestions for the guidance document.
